Cheese Books
There are many fabulous cheese books floating around out there. Ranging from the most detailed cheese cook books to regionally-focused cheese encyclopedias to general cheese education and appreciation resources, the titles abound. Included here is a small list of our favorite cheese books. They are all part of our library (and will be available for you to peruse at Cheesetique). This is by no means a comprehensive list – let us know if you would like more recommendations.
The Cheese Primer
by Steven Jenkins
This is considered by many to be the cheese book of all cheese books. It is a great initial foray into the world of cheese. Having been published in 1996, I consider this book to be a bit dated in the sense that so many wonderful cheeses that we have access to now (both international and American) are not always included. But if you want to jump into the head of one of the world’s great cheese buffs, this is the book for you! |

The Cheese Bible
by Christian Teubner
If you’re a fan of beautiful pictures, you’ll love this book. It is a wonderfully comprehensive encyclopedia of cheese – from making it to selecting it to eating it. This is a must-have for any cheese lover. The photos will surely make your mouth water! And with the great recipe section in the back, you can take a first stab at cooking with the great cheeses. |

The Cheese Plate
by Max McCalman and David Gibbons
I absolutely love this book! I use it with great frequency whenever I need to brush up on my cheese knowledge. One of the great sections contains a list of cheese plates you can try – it’s a great guide for those of you just getting started. It also has detailed recommendations for pairing cheese with wine and other foods. I describe this book as very “hands-on” – if you need a quick reference to anything cheese, this is your best bet. |

The New American Cheese
by Laura Werlin
What a fabulous representation of the wide array of American artisan and farmstead cheeses! Laura Werlin really does the American cheese industry proud with this fantastic chronicle of our own world of cheese. Many of the finest American cheesemakers are represented here – and Laura does a great job of including recipes that you can make at home using the cheeses described. |

French Cheeses
by Kazuko Masui and Tomoko Yamada (Consultant Randolph Hodgson)
Ever wanted to know all there was to know about French cheeses? Then jump right in. If anything, this book will serve as an eye-opener to the overwhelming number and variety of French cheeses. You can’t get many of these in the States, but you will certainly be mesmerized at the quantity of cheeses you find here. |

Italian Cheese
by Slow Food Editore
Similar to the French Cheeses book, this one will knock your socks off with the sheer number of Italian cheeses. If you’ve gotten a good understanding of cheeses and you want to delve a little deeper, you will really enjoy this. |
